Need to Know....

  • Student-Parent Portal and the Summer Months

The Student-Parent Portal accounts will be disabled over the summer months. The portal will be unavailable to students and parents from July 2, 2018 to August 31, 2018 @ 4:00 p.m..

  • Ask your child about...

We will do our best to regularly add discussion topics to this space to engage your child in conversation at home.

These topics can be a nice replacement for the standard question, "How was your day?"

*What were your two favorite activities for field day? Tell me why.

    * What are three important behavior expectations to keep in mind when playing on the playground ?

    * Talk about your favorite summertime activity.

    * Where is your class going for their class trip? What are you hoping to see/learn during your trip?

    * There aren't many days left of school. What will you work really hard on before the year ends?

  • Playground Access Notice

Keeping our students safe is important to all of us. For that reason and in response to concerns raised by parents and staff, we ask that the playground area be reserved to students and staff only between the hours of 8:25 AM and 2:45 PM. All parents/guardians/siblings/pets are kindly asked to remain outside the playground area. As such, we ask that our families accompany their children to the edge of our playground at the beginning of the day and allow their children to play/socialize independently until the bell rings. Children will walk to their designated entry door on their own. We also encourage parents/guardians who pick up their children at the end of the day to wait along the edge of the playground and establish a meeting spot in those areas.

The playground is an extension of our school and often used as an outdoor classroom throughout the day.  The same check-in process is necessary for the playground as inside our building. Parents/guardians who wish to be on the playground within the hours noted above are required to sign into the office and pick up a visitor’s tag. An exception to this guideline will be made for our licensed daycare providers who drop off/pick up a number of children each day. These changes are supported by our School Advisory Council which is comprised of parents, community members and staff.

  • Allergy Safe

This is a reminder that Spring Street Academy endeavors to be an allergy safe school so please help us to keep our students safe.  We have several students with life threatening allergies. There are many nut free snacks available and we would ask that parents NOT send items containing nuts of any kind to school (including peanut butter and Nutella). Though we cannot guarantee that those items will not show up from time to time we try to be vigilant. Please make us aware in the office of any students who have severe allergies of any kind.

  • June Menu & Cafeteria Closure

Please be advised that the June cafeteria menu is posted on this site. It can be found under the About SSA tab labeled "cafeteria menu." Also please note that the last day for cafeteria service will be June 25. It will be closed for cleaning on June 26 and June 27.

  • Student Arrival on Playground

Parents and guardians are reminded that students are NOT to be on school grounds before 8:25 am in the morning. Morning supervision does not begin at school until then and the safety and security of your child is at risk as a result. Thank you for your helping us to keep your children safe.

  • Proof of Address for Revenue Canada

Effective immediately, SSA will no longer provide letters stating a child's address for use by Revenue Canada. Schools are under no obligation to provide this information. Parents/guardians are advised to contact their family doctor, dentist, church, etc. for this information. Thank you!

  • Mid-Day Dismissal Procedure

Students who leave school during the school day (for illness, appointments, etc.) are required to remain in the office until a parent or designate sign them out. That said, parents are asked to come into the school on such occasions. If someone who is not listed as a contact on the student's file is picking up the student, it is also important that parents either notify the school by phone or written notification. Thanks so much for helping us keep your children safe!

  • MedicAlert - No Child Without

We are very pleased that Spring Street Academy has registered with the MedicAlert Foundation Canada's No Child Without program. This important charitable program provides children attending our school one FREE MedicAlert ID and FREE MedicaAlert membership  coverage between four years and up until their 14th birthday.  If you have a child with a medical condition, allergies that require the use of an epinephrine injector, asthma requiring an inhaler, or life-protecting medication, please contact Mrs. Janes Pedersen at our school (902-661-2499). For more information please also consult nochildwithout.ca.
